TeenEagle Soft Skills: Understanding Communication
One of the worst mistakes we make in communication is hearing someone without actually listening to them. In our fast-paced lives, it’s common to focus on waiting for our turn to speak, resulting in miscommunication. However, communication skills are essential in all aspects of life, not just in interpersonal or work relationships. Soft skills, such as speaking and listening, are crucial in education, where students learn to interact with their peers and express themselves.
Successful communication requires mastering the art of compromise, empathy, and bravery.
Compromise means understanding the foundations of opposing arguments, not to win but to resolve. Creating a bridge between two different viewpoints is the ultimate test of communication.
Empathy is the ability to understand not only someone’s argument but also their personal experiences and emotions. By doing so, we can gain a broader perspective on the world and use it to our advantage. Accepting the views and emotions of others is crucial for creating balance.
Bravery allows us to apply our skills and knowledge to the world around us. It takes courage to put our ideas into practice and support them in the face of criticism. By combining these three skills, students learn to listen to others and understand them better.
Practicing communication skills is just like practicing any other skill — it takes time and effort. By honing our communication skills, we can improve our relationships, whether it be with peers or during an oral exam. With TeenEagle, we aim to push students to communicate with the world around them and use their newfound skills of compromise, empathy, and bravery to create a better future.
